Career Assistance Network was founded in 1997 by Barb Sheppard – a tireless community advocate whose acknowledgements include the Premier’s Award of Excellence and the 2009 Women of Excellence Award.
Career Assistance Network helps build the local economy, which in turn creates a stronger network of employers seeking and finding local employees who are reliable and hardworking. This initiative also supports local individuals looking to stay within the community they love.
“We support both ends of the spectrum,” says the Network’s Ashton Selig, Marketing Specialist and Employer Liaison. “Helping businesses to grow and succeed, but also helping local community members find employment in their own backyard.”
Career Assistance Network has been in the Red Deer area, assisting Central Albertans, for over twenty years. The CAN staff travel to places like Drayton Valley, Rocky Mountain House, Stettler, Olds, and Hanna to ensure everyone receives the best possible employment services.
“We’ve worked on programs to train potential employees for specific industries,” says Ashton. “Including security, retail management and now financial, insurance and investment companies.”
CAN also assists individuals with such basic skills as reading, writing and math, as well as offering individual and group services to assist with career planning, resume building, job search support and interview preparation.
“Our support, programs and training help boost people’s confidence,” says Ashton. “Not only in the workforce but in their personal lives as well.”
Quite simply, Career Assistance Network helps everyone find work. High school students looking for their first job, apprentices, people looking to make a career change, international business, oilfield professionals and even employers looking to make the next hire.
“There’s no shame in asking for professional help, and that’s just what we’re here to do. Help you find the work you want.”
The Career Assistance Network is located at 6 – 4699 61st Street. Just east of TBS Sports at the bottom of the North Hill. Online at rdcan.ca. A strong community builder. A business making a difference in Red Deer and Central Alberta.
